QCIF welcomes new Biometrician to support analytics for grains research

QCIF is pleased to announce the appointment of Varun Ranganath as a Junior Biometrician to provide statistical support to the Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry’s (AAGI) research projects.


Varun will work on experimental design and analytics methods to help Australian grain growers make better decisions based on data.


 AAGI aims to harness analytics to drive the sector’s profitability and global competitiveness. 


Varun has a Master of Science (Statistics) from The University of Queensland (UQ) and a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics, Statistics and Economics) from Christ (Deemed to be university) in Bengaluru (Bangalore). He has experience in applying data science techniques to various domains, including health, agriculture, and finance.


Dr Dominique (Dom) Gorse, Director of QCIF Data Science and Bioinformatics, said Varun’s appointment marks the start of a strong collaboration between QCIF, UQ-AAGI led by Professor Scott Chapman, and

UQ-RASSS (Research and Statistical Support Service) led by Professor Jason Ferris.


Varun will work closely with Prof. Chapman, Professor in Crop Physiology at UQ’s School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability, and Prof. Ferris, Director of UQ-RASSS.
