Meet our new leaders in statistics and bioinformatics

In line with our commitment to fostering expertise and innovation, and in response to QCIF’s expanding services in biostatistics, bioinformatics, and biodata, we are pleased to announce the appointments of Dr Farah Zahir as Head of Statistics & Principal Data Scientist (Biostatistics) and Nicholas Matigian as Head of Bioinformatics & Principal Data Scientist (Bioinformatics).


The QCIF statistics and bioinformatics teams covers the whole data life cycle, from experimental design to data capture, analysis and visualisation, applied to ‘omics analyses.


These two new leadership roles will better align with the growing demand for biostatistics and bioinformatics services, offering a tailored approach to support life sciences and health researchers in maximising the value of their research data.


Please join us in congratulating Farah and Nicholas as they embark on these new and exciting roles, continuing to contribute to QCIF’s mission of supporting Australian researchers with advanced data science capabilities.


Farah Zahir – Head of Statistics and Principal Data Scientist (Biostatistics)


Dr Farah Zahir brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to this leadership role, shaped by her medical background, health management expertise, and postgraduate training. She sees this position as an opportunity not only to apply her knowledge but also to inspire others to believe in themselves and strive toward their goals.


Farah is passionate about building strong research communities and fostering collaborations, which are central to her new role. She looks forward to continuing her work with existing clients while forging new, meaningful, and long-lasting relationships.


Farah describes QCIF as an inclusive and future-focused organisation with a strong work culture, and she is eager to contribute to impactful projects that make a tangible difference in the research landscape.



Nicholas Matigian – Head of Bioinformatics and Principal Data Scientist (Bioinformatics)


Nicholas Matigian, an experienced researcher in bioinformatics, is excited to take on this role and play a key part in developing QCIF’s bioinformatics capabilities. He views this as an opportunity for professional growth and to further his contributions to advancing bioinformatics research in Australia.


In his new role, Nicholas is committed to continuing the delivery of high-quality bioinformatics support to QCIF members and partners. He looks forward to helping researchers with diverse and groundbreaking projects, while also shaping QCIF’s future direction in this critical area.
