Bioinformatics & Biostatistics
QCIF  Bioinformatics (formerly QFAB) is a QCIF unit providing access to specialised skills in bioinformatics, biostatistics and biodata to help life sciences and health researchers get the most out of their research data.
QCIF Bioinformatics support covers the whole data life cycle, from experimental design to data capture, analysis and visualisation, applied to ‘omics analyses. In particular, QCIF Bioinformatics has expertise in multi-omics integration, including linkage to clinical data.

Researchers and HDR students from QCIF’s Member universities can access the QCIF Bioinformatics’  team’s skills through free clinics for advice, on-demand support for research projects or embedded bioinformaticians within their research teams. Researchers receive the collective experience of the QCIF team in complementary domains and at different levels of seniority.

QCIF Bioinformatics also offers training in all facets of bioinformatics.

Working with QCIF Bioinformations
We work with a variety of researchers across a diverse range of biological and health projects. This diversity builds our intellectual capacity to apply new skills and approaches to your project’s aims, to implement the most effective solutions to help you to unlock the full value of your data.

Early engagement means we can take the time to understand your goals and help derive the most efficient and cost-effective bioinformatics solutions, while the international experience brought to projects by our member team ensures the application of the relevant tools to the right data to answer your particular questions.

QCIF Bioinformatics can work on a fee-for-service basis, provide personnel time against an ongoing need or develop a detailed proposal to meet your specifications. We can also embed personnel to be part of your research team.

We have a strong track record of delivering results which are grounded in the team’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation, ensuring that our clients can trust in the knowledge and integrity of our support.

Training & workshops
We work on a specific project with well-defined deliverables and milestones.

A specified number of days of support is purchased in advance and can be used when required during a specified period (usually 12 months). This is also a good model when the project involves exploratory analysis and requires a more agile approach.

The %FTE is a flexible solution to accommodate bioinformatics/biostatistics needs for research groups with ongoing data analysis needs but who do not need a full-time bioinformatician/biostatistician. A QCIF Bioinformatician can be dedicated to your projects and work with your team on the basis of a fraction of FTE (e.g., 1 day per week).
We provide a set of bioinformatics, biostatistics and biodata training workshops throughout the year (see QCIF’s Course Catalogue). We can also deliver training workshops within organisations in Australia.
